What is Modern PD?

Modern PD is the culmination of multiple recent advancements in clinical practice and innovations in technology that, in combination, are yielding improved survival, increasing patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes that in some cases are outpacing those of HD.1,2,3

The opportunity for employment

PD enables many patients to continue their employment while undergoing their dialysis.4,5 Overnight dialysis with APD allows full-time employment, and the portability of CAPD allows PD to be done even while patients are at work.

50% of patients on APD are employed vs 20% on HD.6 Now that’s an opportunity for patients to be independent!

More time for themselves

PD requires fewer clinic visits than in-centre HD, minimising the time impact of dialysis on a patient’s life. Patients can continue their daily activities.

HD: clinic visits are required 2-3 times a week

PD: clinic visits are required once every 4-12 weeks7

Remote patient management allows pro-active patient care8, without the need for the frequency of clinic visits.

Reduced burden on caregivers

Modern PD is associated with a low level of caregiver burden. 35% of caregivers for PD patients experience low levels of caregiver burden vs 13% of caregivers for HD patients.9
