Live YOUR life with home dialysis

Why miss out on your favourite things, like fishing? Or the gym? Or continuing full time work? Just because you have to undertake dialysis, doesn’t mean you can’t live YOUR life. Completing your dialysis at home can help you to continue your hobbies, your work, and your social activities while you manage chronic kidney disease.

PERITONEAL DIALYSIS (PD)

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is a treatment that uses the lining of your abdomen - called the peritoneal membrane - to remove waste products from your blood. PD allows a flexible treatment schedule, as it can be done at home or work and either during the day or during sleep.

HAEMODIALYSIS (HD)

Haemodialysis (HD) uses a machine and a synthetic membrane (called a dialyser) to filter your blood. HD can be done at a hospital or clinic three times a week (3-5 hours), or at home, where you can enjoy being in your own house for your treatment.

TRANSPLANT

A kidney transplant is a surgical operation where a healthy kidney from a donor is placed in your body. This new kidney will filter your blood and remove excess fluids the way your two kidneys would if they were healthy. If your overall health is good, you may be a candidate for a transplant, however you may still need to be on dialysis before a transplant.

CONSERVATIVE CARE

If it is felt that neither dialysis nor kidney transplant is the right option for you, you may consider conservative care. Conservative care focuses on controlling your symptoms and maintaining your quality of life.
